HONORING THE OCTOBER 7 HOSTAGES THROUGH THE POWER OF ART
A poignant collection of work by eight Philadelphia artists depicting the individual stories of more than 200 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023 | “Amidst all the news of the war, it sometimes feels that the plight of the hostages has been forgotten. We speak about the hostages as a number, a group, not as individuals,” shared Jeffrey Lasday, Senior Chief, External Affairs at the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.
“Nearly five months after the attack, more than 130 Israeli men, women, and children are still languishing in captivity, and this powerful exhibit embodies our call on countries across the globe to do everything in their power to help end this unimaginable ordeal and bring them home.”
- Combat Antisemitism Movement CEO Sacha Roytman
“The whole event of Oct. 7 ripped our hearts out,” Peck said. “The world changed. We’ve all felt helpless in a way, especially with some of the events — protests and other things (and) the antisemitism that’s reared its ugly head. How can we do something to combat this? And by being part of the exhibition, we’re actually doing that. We wanted to show the humanity of the hostages who have been dehumanized, to bring the story of Israel’s captives to the public’s eye, as it fades from the media’s attention.”
- Dr. Scott Peck, Museum of Biblical Art Director and Curator
